A year after introducing the iPhone 5, Apple released an updated version in the iPhone 5c. From the outside, the two phones look almost identical. However, the iPhone 5c features hard plastic housing instead of the iPhone 5’s aluminum casing, making the iPhone 5c a more affordable option for many users. Another new feature of this iPhone is that Apple is allowing users to pick from five different colors, including pink, yellow, green, blue and white.

For the most part, the iPhone 5c is similar to its predecessor under the hood. However, this newer model features an updated camera that allows for front-facing shots as well as Facetime. It also features HD, while the rear facing camera is good for eight pixels.

Another important difference between the iPhone 5 and 5c is that the 5c offers a far more efficient battery, offering 10 hours of power whether you’re browsing, talking or watching video.

While the iPhone 5 is notable for being able to run iOS 6, the 5c is able to support iOS 7. Plus, it can process greater Long-Term Evolution bands than any previous version of the iPhone, thanks to the A6 chip.

The phone comes with 16GB standard and the 4 inch retina display that was first introduced with the iPhone 5.

Unlocked iPhone 5c’s can run on a number of different networks including T-Mobile and AT&T. GSM SIM cards work with it too. However, CDMA carriers (e.g. Boost, Verizon, Sprint, Virgin, etc.) will not work with the iPhone 5c.

Other features common to the line include an updated Siri voice assistant, multi-format music player, and Bluetooth capability. The iPhone 5c features Apple’s unique map app and many other new and improved applications such as Passbook, iMovie and more.
